the mandatory pre-cny post

Whats the best way to chase your customers away? blast the horrific "DONG DONG DONG CHIANG" lunar new year music in your stores.

unfortunately, in some shopping centres, that music is also playing (softer, this time, but still audible) in the central PA system, elevators, carparks and even toilets.

yes my friends, this time of the year, i do not like.

so i really don't appreciate my mom (who is, btw, not even bloody chinese) plastering the entire house in gaudy red and gold CNY decorations. don't get me wrong. one or two is fine. festive, even. but really, there is a cny decoration hanging off ANYTHING that can be hung in my house, and even twin fish and a large "fu" word blu-tacked to the front door because there wasnt a hook.

and for some reason, my mother does not appreciate the beauty in small things. oh no, our ornaments do not consist of cute little gold ingots or fans, but rather, large paper pineapples that are so huge you have to duck to get past them, big plastic fish and chinese words i don't even recognise.

just paint the whole house red and outline the furniture in gold, why doncha?

sigh.

one last rant - the most important and therefore the shortest - i. am. not. looking. forward. to. visiting. my. dad's. side. of. the. family. never in my life enjoyed it, and this year it will be very very much worse.

to be fair, cny IS the only time with the best goodies around. yeap, christmas food is great, but cny cookies are by far the best. bak kwa, spring rolls, pineapple tarts, bak kwa, little kuehkuehs, love letters and more bak kwa! and of course allllll the sugary drinks that everyone allows themselves just for this time of year.

oh WHAT THE HECK. its chinese new year! :D
