relief is me

i'm glad to say that all my essays have been handed in. thats the last of assignments that have to be rushed through for the rest of my life. for school anyways. i'm also glad to say (this is on hindsight, of course, at the time it was NO FUN) that this is the first time i've experienced actually RUNNING to the department office just to meet the deadline.

y'see, i had three assignments due all on friday. yes, it was madness, especially when only one was completed the day before, one had no help from a fellow groupmate, and one, well, the last one was about the 18th Century novel. how fun could that have been. anyway, being the slacker that i was, i realised the assignments were not due in the morning, so, being miss smart aleck, i saved what work i had in a nifty new thumb drive and headed to school to bang out the last two essays before their deadlines.

3.45pm (15 mins before deadline): strolls into the lit department and smugly slides in 3 assignments into the pigeon hole. (mine and 2 other friends') cheers other lit students on as they come running up the 6 flights of stairs to the department office as i stroll back to the computer lab.

5.03pm (3 mins after deadline): i'm panting after sprinting from the computer lab up 6 flights of stairs to the lit dept office. i curse the fact that the office is SO HIGH UP, fearfully look around, and say a silent prayer of thanks as i still see stacks and stacks of assignments in the pigeon hole. that means Richardson hasnt come to collect them yet. wipes sweat off brow, visits the ladies and goes back to computer lab where i had left everything (including that nifty thumb drive) in my haste to meet the deadline.

5.40pm (10mins after deadline): i am outside the engineering department office, doing everything to stop myself from knocking my head on the LOCKED glass door. this time its not my fault that the damned bus took a million years to come around. but i am somehow cheered by the growing number of students coming to join me, all late. we all look wistfully into the dark office when suddenly, we see signs of life! a very brave girl bangs her fists on the glass door and manages to get the attention of the last employee left in the department, who was (thankfully)working late that evening. the employee lets us all in the back door to hand in our assignment.

i havent handed any assignment late late, meaning having to type a woeful email to a professor explaining how i have a "heart condition", but at least i've experienced running to meet the deadline at least once in my uni life. thank God thats all over.
