Egypt

Can't tear my eyes away from the TV at work today, watching the unrest in Cairo.

Good grief. Things have escalated in the past 72 hours to the point where international journalists (and local ones too, I believe) are getting rounded up like sheep, beaten and thrown into jail. Their cameras are getting smashed, their news vehicles are getting pelted with rocks and every time they're on air (reporting from undisclosed locations), the thing that gets repeated the most is "I am so scared".

Worse still are the protesters on the streets. CNN is showing a video of a police van racing down the street through a mass of protesters without slowing. Through a mass of protesters. Those protesters didn't get up after. A huge firetruck also barreled down a different street without slowing and the cameraman got up close to one protester left laying in the street, with others rushing to him screaming "they've killed him". Oh, and then there's that video of a protester catching fire after a molotov cocktail catches him in the chest.

Every time the video comes on I flinch.

And there's a big rally planned in the central square for later today, which analysts believe will be tiananmen-esque.

No jokes this post. Not going into a political debate/finger pointing, either. Just one giant prayer going out to the people in Egypt. I'm so blessed to be safe but am also feeling an overwhelming sense that I am wasting my life, and should be doing something to help right about now.
